Chateau SIGALAS RABAUD 1995
Château Sigalas Rabaud is located in the commune of Bommes in Sauternes , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé in the classification of Sauternes and Barsac in 1855. In 1863, Henri de Sigalas acquired Château Rabaud, a property whose condition had slowly deteriorated. In 1903, Pierre Gaston de Sigalas (the only son of Henri de Sigalas) separates from Château Rabaud but retains the southern slope encircling the farm and attaches to Rabaud the name of his Sigalas family giving its new identity to this cru: Sigalas Rabaud . Laure de Lambert Compeyrot , is today general manager of the property, embodying the sixth generation at Sigalas Rabaud since 1863. With a view to respecting the terroir and transmitting living soil to future generations, tools for preserving biodiversity and plant heritage have been set up. The 14-hectare estate is the smallest of the Sauternes premier crus.
Château Sigalas Rabaud is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc whose grapes have been affected by noble rot. The wine is aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels. For Sauternes , the 1995 vintage was mostly brilliant . The growing season began with a mild winter, which turned into a warm, mild spring. Summer then brought high temperatures and dry weather, perfect for ensuring the phenolic maturity of the grapes. A wet September then led to the easy development of botrytis as the temperatures were still high enough to create that much needed humidity.
