Château SUDUIRAUT 1995
Château Suduiraut is located in Preignac, in the Sauternes appellation, in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Premier Cru Classé in 1855. The estate took the name of Suduiraut in 1580, following the marriage of Nicole d'Allard with Léonard de Suduiraut. AXA Millésimes bought Château Suduiraut in 1992. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), the estate consists of 91 hectares of vines on gravelly sandy-clay soil. The stones capture the heat of the sun and thus allow the grapes to reach maturity more quickly. The proximity of the vineyard to the Ciron and the Garonne provides the ideal conditions for an excellent development of the noble rot of Botrytis Cinerea . The development of Botrytis Cinerea is very random and does not affect all the vines at the same time. This requires meticulous and exclusively manual picking per part of the bunch to monitor the evolution of over-ripening. The harvests are staggered over time, up to 5 times between the end of September and mid-November.
Château Suduiraut is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc . In the cellar, the pressing is long and delicate to extract the richest juices, before vinification and slow aging in oak barrels (35% in new barrels, 35% in one-wine barrels and 30% in old barrels). ), where the wine will remain for 20 months . The different batches are then selected for assembly. For Sauternes , the 1995 vintage was mostly brilliant . The growing season began with a mild winter, which turned into a warm, mild spring. Summer then brought high temperatures and dry weather, perfect for ensuring the phenolic maturity of the grapes. A wet September then led to the easy development of botrytis as the temperatures were still high enough to create that much needed humidity.
