The Forgotten Vines - Terrasses du Larzac 2022
Les Vignes Oubliées is located on the Terrasses du Larzac , in Languedoc . The estate was created by Jean-Baptiste Granier , with the help of Olivier Jullien, a great researcher of Languedoc terroir. Before their arrival, the grapes were sent to a cooperative winery. The mountain culture specific to Saint-Privat, the layout and the time necessary for the cultivation of the vines meant that they were not sufficiently developed. The productivist system was therefore not adapted to “forgotten vines”, and the winegrowers had great difficulty making a living from it. Today, Jean-Baptiste Granier produces wine from these very old vines of ancestral selections , cultivated at high altitude (300-400 meters). As the vines have not been subjected to intense and unreasonable chemical treatments, the transition to organic farming was adopted.
The Terrasses du Larzac cuvée is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan grown on a terroir of sandstone, schist and some clay-limestone. The grapes are sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. Vatting lasts 15 to 20 days and aging lasts 12 months in demi-muids and barrels .
Grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan
