Mas de la Séranne - Antonin and Louis 2023
The Mas de la Séranne is located in the heart of the AOP Terrasses du Larzac, on high-altitude terroirs marked by strong Mediterranean influences and cool nights that preserve the balance of the grapes. The estate relies on a heritage of ancient terraces of Hérault, shaped by time and characterized by the abundant presence of rolled pebbles, guaranteeing slow and homogeneous ripening. The clay-limestone soils and very low yields, around 25 hl/ha, testify to rigorous vineyard work aimed at natural concentration and the most faithful expression of the terroir. This approach allows Mas de la Séranne to produce wines that are both powerful, structured, and endowed with true elegance.
The cuvée Antonin and Louis 2023 pays tribute to the domain's ancestor winemakers, great-uncle and grandfather respectively, whose first names it bears. It is made from a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, each coming from carefully selected terroirs. The Syrah and Mourvèdre come from the ancient terraces of Hérault, while the Carignan comes from very poor terraces dating from the Tertiary era, giving the wine depth and character. The vinification is based on a traditional fermentation with long maceration, promoting a gradual and controlled extraction. The aging is carried out for 13 months in oak barrels from Allier and the Centre, from one to three wines, to bring complexity and structure while respecting the expression of fruit and terroir.
On tasting, the color is purple red with violet reflections. The nose is complex and deep, with a mineral attack marked by notes of leather and smoke, followed by balsamic and mentholated nuances, then candied black fruits like blackcurrant and blackberry, enhanced by spicy touches of pepper and cinnamon. The palate is fleshy and elegant, supported by harmonious and supple tannins, perfectly integrated. The finish, long and fresh, is distinguished by a mentholated persistence that brings balance and relief to the whole. This wine will ideally accompany a rib steak, grilled meats, or game, and is a cuvée of character, designed for gastronomy and aging.
