Château LATOUR MARTILLAC 1994
Château Latour-Martillac is located in Martillac, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux . It appears in the Graves Wine Classification of 1953. In 1871, the estate attracted the attention of Edouard Kressmann who had just founded his trading company in Bordeaux. Today, Jean Kressmann's 6 children own the estate and continue the family tradition. Tristan and Loïc, the two youngest sons, manage the estate with the help of the best Bordeaux wine consultants. Loïc Kressmann and the vineyard manager, Denis Wendling, have set up an integrated viticultural practice , respectful of the environment and comprising four main axes: promoting biodiversity, work adapted to the vineyard, a measured approach to treatments and an area washing facility where all effluents and wastewater from viticulture are recovered and treated.
The Grand Vin of Château Latour-Martillac is a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend, with Merlot and Petit Verdot . The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 16 months , 40% of which are new barrels. The 1994 vintage in Bordeaux had a wet April, but the spring was ideal and led to early flowering. The summer was hot and sunny until a deluge hit on September 7, and continuing through the rest of the month, but conditions were too cool to encourage rot. Careful grape selection was crucial to avoid overly diluted berries.
