Champagne Gaspard Brochet - Le Coq - Volume 2
Based in Villers-aux-Nœuds, Gaspard Brochet is committed to revealing the diversity of the terroirs of the Montagne de Reims through a series of single-vineyard cuvées grouped under the "Volume" collection. Each wine is conceived as a precise interpretation of a grape variety, a place, and a vintage, with an artisanal approach that prioritizes the personality of the terroir over any search for standardization. Le Coq – Volume 2 perfectly illustrates this philosophy by combining two emblematic Premier Cru villages: Écueil and Sacy. This cuvée highlights the complementarity of these two terroirs through a Pinot Noir of great finesse, where the identity of the grape variety blends with the diversity of the soils. Produced in limited quantity, it testifies to the estate's desire to explore terroir blends while maintaining a precise and authentic reading of the wine. The 2023 base brings freshness, energy, and aromatic definition here.
Le Coq (Volume 2) is made exclusively from Pinot Noir from the Premier Cru villages of Écueil and Sacy. The vines are planted on predominantly sandy soils, which give the wine a particularly elegant, airy, and refined expression. The vinification follows the estate's emblematic protocol, with a full gravity-driven process to preserve the integrity of the grapes and the delicacy of the juices. Fermentations and aging take place in small oak barrels, allowing the wine to gain depth without losing its fruity identity. True to Gaspard Brochet's philosophy, this cuvée is neither fined, filtered, nor racked, in order to preserve all its substance and natural energy. This low-intervention approach highlights the purity of Pinot Noir as well as the finesse typical of sandy terroirs. The 2023 base brings a beautiful dynamic and emphasizes the vibrant character of the blend.
On tasting, this cuvée reveals a Pinot Noir that is both precise and generous. The nose opens with aromas of fresh red fruits, cherry, currant, and raspberry, accompanied by delicate floral nuances and a slight spicy touch. On the palate, the wine stands out for its silky texture and great fluidity, with elegant substance carried by remarkable freshness. The sandy soils bring finesse and delicacy, while the barrel aging contributes to complexity without overpowering the fruit. The fine bubbles accompany a long, saline, and harmonious finish that extends the sensation of purity. This gastronomic champagne will ideally accompany roasted poultry, pink veal, noble fish, or refined cuisine highlighting delicate products. It will seduce lovers of Champagne Pinot Noir seeking above all balance, finesse, and terroir expression.
