Clos de la Barthassade - Pur C - Magnum 2024
A symbol of the purest style of Clos de la Barthassade, the Pur C cuvée lays bare the Carignan in an interpretation of rare elegance and depth. Located between Jonquières and Montpeyroux, on the stony, limestone soils of Terrasses du Larzac, Guillaume and Hélène Baron create a vibrant, precise wine, where the freshness of the terroir interacts with the solar maturity of the south. The magnum format magnifies this straightforward and digestible profile, while offering remarkable aging potential.
The 2024 vintage, marked by a bright summer and cool nights, allowed for a slow ripening process, perfect for Carignan. The vines, several decades old, produce low yields but with exemplary concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand, partially vinified in whole bunches, then aged in concrete vats and demi-muids to preserve the energy of the fruit and the purity of the juice. No excess extraction, no oak makeup: everything is designed to let the finesse of the grape variety and the freshness of Larzac speak for itself.
The color is a deep and brilliant ruby. The nose, pure and precise, evokes fresh cherry, wild raspberry, peony, black pepper and thyme. On the palate, the texture seduces with its silky fluidity and contained density. The fruit is bright, supported by chiseled acidity and tannins of exemplary finesse. The finish, long and salivating, leaves an impression of warm stone, garrigue and graphite, with a rare elegance for this grape variety often considered rustic. Served between 15 and 16 °C, the Pur C 2024 in magnum unfolds its full dimension after a thirty-minute decanting. It will accompany a roast veal chop, grilled pigeon, Provençal stew, pink roast beef, or Mediterranean cuisine flavored with herbs and sunny vegetables. It is a wine of balance and emotion, both rooted in its terroir and confidently modern.
The Clos de la Barthassade – Pur C 2024 stands out for its purity, precision, and exemplary drinkability. In this magnum format, it will gain in complexity over time while retaining the freshness and vibrancy that already make it a great southern wine.
