Domaine Abbatucci - Faustine Rosé 2025
In the Taravo valley, south of Ajaccio, Domaine Comte Abbatucci upholds a deeply cultural vision of Corsican vineyards. Jean-Charles Abbatucci continues the work started by his family around island grape varieties, considered both a living heritage and a source of identity for the wines. The vines take root in granite arenas, under a Mediterranean climate tempered by maritime influences and mountainous reliefs. The estate has been managed biodynamically for over twenty years, with constant attention to soil life, plant diversity, and the natural balance of the plots. Created at the birth of Faustine, Jean-Charles Abbatucci's daughter, the cuvée bearing her name is the heart of the estate's range. Its rosé version highlights the sciaccarellu, an emblematic grape variety of the island, appreciated for its aroma, finesse, and spicy expression. It moves away from rosés based solely on paleness and lightness to offer a precise, textured wine deeply linked to its origin.
Faustine Rosé 2025 is made exclusively from sciaccarellu from old vines grown on granite arena soils. The harvest is handpicked and carefully sorted to preserve the integrity and aromatic freshness of the grapes. Direct pressing is done on whole clusters or after destemming, depending on the condition and maturity of the fruit. The juices then rest for twenty-four to forty-eight hours to allow static settling before the start of alcoholic fermentation. This takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, a neutral container that preserves the fruit's clarity and the floral identity of the sciaccarellu. Natural tartaric stabilization by cold precedes bottling, with fining or filtration only when necessary. The 2025 vintage thus delivers a rosé of freshness and precision, whose delicate matter retains enough relief to accompany food.
The color presents a petal pink shade, luminous and delicately nuanced. The nose opens with pink grapefruit, currant, and fresh raspberry, accompanied by light flowers and a hint of spice. Upon aeration, notes of white peach, fresh apricot, and citrus peel appear, giving more depth to the whole. The palate starts with a lively and precise attack, quickly enveloped by a silky texture. The fruit remains juicy, supported by a clear acidity and the peppery nuances characteristic of sciaccarellu. The finish extends delicately on citrus, white-fleshed fruits, and fine refreshing bitters. Faustine Rosé will accompany a plate of Corsican charcuterie, grilled red mullet, tuna tartare, Mediterranean vegetables, an octopus salad, or lightly spiced cuisine.
