Domaine Alain Graillot - Crozes Hermitage - Magnum 2023
The Domaine Alain Graillot is an absolute reference of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, located in Pont-de-l’Isère, north of the Rhône valley. Founded in 1985 by Alain Graillot, a major figure of the Rhone revival, the estate is now run by his sons Maxime and Antoine Graillot, who continue a demanding and uncompromising vision. The vineyard, about 20 hectares, is mostly planted on alluvial and clay-limestone soils, worked with an environmentally respectful approach, without official certification but with practices close to organic. The vinifications favor fermentations with indigenous yeasts and a measured aging to preserve the identity of the terroir and the vintage.
The Crozes-Hermitage 2023 in Magnum format is made exclusively from Syrah, the emblematic grape variety of the appellation. From a vintage marked by beautiful maturity and natural balance, this wine expresses a straight, precise Syrah deeply rooted in its northern Rhone origin. The large Magnum format enhances freshness, tension, and aging potential, offering a slower and more harmonious evolution than the classic format.
On tasting, the wine reveals an intense nose of fresh black fruits, violet, and fine spices, supported by a slightly smoky touch. The palate is structured but never austere, carried by an elegant tannic framework, a beautiful energy, and a long, saline, and peppery finish. This Crozes-Hermitage in Magnum will ideally accompany roasted meats, characterful cuisine, or stewed dishes, while being able to evolve favorably over several years.
