Domaine François Carillon - Burgundy Pinot Noir 2024
Located in Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Domaine François Carillon is part of a long family winemaking tradition dating back to 1520. After working alongside his father Louis and brother Jacques, François Carillon founded his own estate in 2010, with the aim of continuing a demanding approach to viticulture and winemaking. While the estate is mainly renowned for its great Chardonnays from Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Saint-Aubin, it also produces some red wines that reflect the same pursuit of precision. The Burgundy Pinot Noir represents a more discreet expression of this expertise, highlighting the emblematic red grape variety of Burgundy. It follows a style that favors fruit elegance, fine tannins, and freshness rather than excessive concentration. Vineyard management focuses on careful attention to soil life, with mechanical work and no herbicides. This cuvée thus offers another interpretation of the estate's identity through an accessible Pinot Noir worked with the same rigor as its whites.
The 2024 Burgundy Pinot Noir is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, harvested at maturity to preserve the balance between aromatic intensity and freshness. The grapes are handpicked, allowing careful selection before arriving at the winery. The vinification aims to gently extract color and tannins without hardening the naturally fine structure of the variety. Temperature and extraction control preserve the clarity of red fruit aromas, essential to the identity of this cuvée. Aging in wood then supports the wine's development by softening tannins and integrating the different components of the palate. The measured use of oak aims to add depth without imposing dominant woody notes. The 2024 vintage, marked in Burgundy by cool climatic conditions and significant sanitary pressure, particularly rewarded estates attentive to grape selection. It should produce a Pinot Noir more oriented towards finesse and liveliness than power.
The 2024 Burgundy Pinot Noir should present a bright ruby robe and a delicate bouquet dominated by fresh cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant. Fine floral notes evoking violet and peony may complement this fruity expression, accompanied by a discreet touch of sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is expected to be supple and elegant, with delicate matter supported by fresh and well-integrated acidity. The tannins should remain fine and discreet, letting the fruit take center stage. The aging brings slight roundness without masking the transparency of the Pinot Noir, while the finish favors precision and freshness. This profile makes it a particularly pleasant red Burgundy to enjoy young, although it can gain complexity after a few years in bottle. It will naturally accompany roasted poultry, pork tenderloin, veal with mushrooms, country terrine, or soft cheeses. A slight aeration before serving will reveal all the finesse of its aromatic expression.
