Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial - Rully Maizieres Blanc 2023
Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is today one of the major references of Rully and, more broadly, of the Côte Chalonnaise. Located in Burgundy, the estate has established itself through the precision of its whites, the quality of its parcel work, and a demand that regularly places its cuvées at the level of much more prestigious crus. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial manages a vineyard of about 20 hectares, with parcels notably located in Rully, Mercurey, Puligny-Montrachet, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. His style is based on careful harvesting, precise aging, and a search for balance between maturity, tension, and mineral depth. In this range, Rully Maizières Blanc holds an important place, as it expresses with great accuracy the potential of the great white terroirs of the appellation. The 2023 vintage, generous but balanced in Burgundy, here gives a Chardonnay that is both ripe, tense, and elegant. Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Maizières Blanc 2023 thus presents itself as a refined, precise, and highly sought-after Burgundy white.
The Rully Maizières Blanc 2023 cuvée is made from 100% Chardonnay, grown on a parcel of about 2 hectares located in the center of the Rully appellation. The Maizières terroir is described as clayey, with an east exposure that favors regular ripening while maintaining a nice freshness. The vines, planted at the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s according to some sources, produce a particularly expressive and structured village wine. The grapes are hand-harvested, then worked with precision to preserve the purity of the fruit and the natural tension of the Chardonnay. Aging in barrels, with a measured share of new wood, brings depth, texture, and a fine patina without erasing the expression of the terroir. A finishing in tank is also mentioned by some sources, allowing to refine the balance before bottling. Maizières 2023 thus stands out by its alliance between discreet richness, minerality, and elegance of aging.
On tasting, Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully Maizières Blanc 2023 offers a bright pale yellow robe with delicate golden reflections. The nose may evoke ripe lemon, fresh pear, yellow apple, white flowers, almond, fine hazelnut, and a slightly buttery or toasted touch perfectly integrated. On the palate, the wine is ample but precise, with a silky texture supported by a beautiful mineral tension. The aging brings relief and depth, while the freshness maintains great elegance throughout. The finish is long, saline, and slightly chalky, with fine bitterness that prolongs the wine with great class. This white Rully will ideally accompany seared scallops, a noble fish with beurre blanc, creamy poultry, mushroom risotto, shellfish, or an aged goat cheese. It can be enjoyed after slight aeration but also has the necessary structure to evolve for several years in the cellar.
