Château CROQUE-MICHOTTE 1978
In 1906, Samuel Geoffrion, great-grandfather of the current owners and operators, acquired Château Croque-Michotte in the town of Saint-Émilion. The family - Geoffrion-Rigal-Carle-Laval - cultivates vines, matures wines, markets and manages Château Croque-Michotte.
Located a few dozen or a few hundred meters from the most famous vineyards of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, the Château Croque-Michotte includes nearly 14 ha of vines (74% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon) on clay subsoils covered with gravel and ancient sands. The average age of the vines is 55 years old.
1978 is a tremendous vintage. Despite a bad weather until the beginning of August, the vintage was saved by an exceptional late season to obtain excellent maturity of the grapes. Late, the grape harvests produced intensely fruity wines, very colorful and moderately tannic.
