Domaine Pierre Adrien Vade - Les Chataigners 2018
Domaine Pierre-Adrien Vadé is located in Saumur-Champigny, in the Loire Valley. He is son and grandson of winemakers and has been making wine in this appellation since 2014. His vineyard, nestled between the Loire and Thouet, takes its specificity from a clay-limestone soil rich in tuffeau, a chalk characteristic of the Vallée de la Loire and which has a strong capacity to accumulate solar heat during the day to restore it at night. The wines of Pierre-Adrien Vadé have been in conversion to organic farming since 2015 and are produced according to a plot selection. Each plot is vinified differently: the first in barrels, the second in vats and the fermentations are carried out with natural yeasts. He uses his father's winery, which has complete facilities.
Les Chataigniers cuvée comes from a plot located in Dampierre-sur-Loire. The vine is young; when Pierre-Adrien took over this vine in 2014, there was Cabernet Franc around 60 years old, but after two vintages (2014 and 2015), he tears off this vine, which is too superficially planted and therefore ill-suited to working the soil. He replants the vine with quality plant material to finally be able to produce in 2018, the first vintage of the Les Chataigniers cuvée. Cabernet Franc is harvested manually then alcoholic fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts and light pigeages are carried out during vinification. The wine is aged in French oak barrels of two wines for 18 months.
