Clydeside - Stobcross Single Malt - 46%
The Clydeside Distillery is located in Glasgow , in the Lowland region of Scotland . Glasgow was once a major whiskey distilling and bottling center in Scotland, with around 40 companies operating in 1963, but by the 21st century there were only a handful left. The Glasgow Distillery Co., which began operation in 2014, was the city's first malthouse to open in 39 years. Around the same time Tim Morrison, owner of AD Rattray and formerly of Morrison Bowmore Distillers, came up with the idea of opening a distillery on the banks of the Clyde. In 2011 Morrison Glasgow Distillers (MGD), led by Tim Morrison as Chairman, his son Andrew as Commercial Director and Glen Moore as Managing Director, purchased the site of " The Old Pumphouse ", built in 1877 by Morrison's great-grandfather, and began a long process to see it converted into a malt whiskey distillery. The first distillation at Clydeside took place on November 6, 2017, with the visitor center opening on November 23.
Stobcross is the first whiskey marketed by The Clydeside Distillery. It refers to the historic cross that once marked the route to Dumbarton Rock; on this road in the 1600s the Anderson family built a fine mansion, Stobcross House, which later developed into the thriving weaving village of Anderston. With time comes change, and in 1875, with the industrial boom of the River Clyde, Stobcross House was demolished to make way for Queen's Dock, one of the beating hearts of global maritime trade and Glasgow fame. The whiskey is produced from Scottish barley and water from Loch Katrine. It was aged in the best oak barrels of the distillery.
