Château SAINT-PIERRE 1996
Château Saint-Pierre is located in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. The estate bears the name of Baron de Saint-Pierre, owner of the castle at the end of the 18th century. In the 19th century, the estate was split in two, becoming Château Saint-Pierre-Bontemps and Château Saint-Pierre-Sevaistre. In 1982, Henri Martin bought the vineyard of Château Saint-Pierre Sevaistre from the heirs of the Van den Bussche family. Fragmented and dispersed over the centuries and successive legacies, Château Saint-Pierre regained its unity and the name it bore more than two centuries ago. The producer incorporates the plots of vines purchased from his own estate in Saint-Julien, Château Gloria.
Château Saint-Pierre is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc . The wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in barrels, 50% of which are new. The 1996 vintage for Bordeaux was extremely good : a mild winter and a warm spring with a month of March bringing significant heat. A hot and dry September favored the ripening of the grapes, which particularly benefited the Médoc. The harvest was a complete success. Cabernet Sauvignon, particularly from the Médoc, has produced tannic, structured, very concentrated wines that are suitable for ageing.
