Château TERTRE ROTEBOEUF 1986
Le Tertre-Rôteboeuf is located in Saint-Émilion , Bordeaux . It is classified Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion. The estate belongs to François and Emilie Mitjavile , who also own Château Roc de Cambes (Côtes de Bourg) and L'Aurage (Côtes de Castillon). The Château was known as Le Tertre until 1975, when the Mitjavile family decided to add Rôteboeuf to the name of the property to make it more distinctive. The vineyard covers just under 6 hectares on a steep slope. The terroir is slightly cooler than most properties in Saint-Émilion, which means that Tertre-Rôteboeuf is usually one of the last in the region to finish its harvest, but this also contributes to the richness of the style of the wine. Yields are kept very low to ensure a concentrated wine and the grapes are harvested by hand.
Château Tertre-Rôteboeuf is a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) . It is fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats and aged in new oak barrels for 24 months . The 1986 vintage for Bordeaux was relatively difficult, but excellent wines were nevertheless produced. The growing season began with a particularly cold winter. Spring started with cool, wet conditions until milder weather guaranteed both bud break and flowering, although they were slightly delayed. The good weather sets in and the summer is long, hot and extremely dry. September brought much needed rain to revitalize the soil and the vines. Conditions dried up towards the end of the month, giving way to hot, dry weather which brought welcome winds favorable to maintaining the vines.
Grapes: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
