S OF SIRAN 2020
Château Siran is located in the village of Labarde, in the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. The estate has existed since a land grant from the church in Guilhem de Siran in 1428 and has belonged to the Miailhe family since 1859. The 38-hectare vineyard has been managed since 2007 by Édouard Miailhe, the 6th generation of the family. The vineyard extends over three communes: 25 hectares in one piece in the Margaux appellation, 11 hectares in Bordeaux Supérieur and 2 hectares in Haut-Médoc. The Siran vineyard is divided into 37 plots, the oldest dating from 1920. In 2008, Édouard Miailhe concentrated his efforts on the vineyard and launched a major replanting program. The vineyard is cultivated in sustainable agriculture with experimentation in organic farming on several plots since 2018. The use of inputs is limited to the strict minimum, with a preference for organic farming products or techniques. Marjolaine Defrance , oenologist and cellar master, directs the key phases of vinification and aging of the wine, with Hubert de Boüard as consultant oenologist for the estate since 2013.
The S de Siran 2020 is a blend of Merlot (62%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Petit Verdot (8%) . It comes from a rigorous selection of young vines located on the Château's gravel plateau. The batches are vinified separately in stainless steel vats of 60 to 180 hectoliters and cement vats. Fermentation lasts 15 to 20 days, then the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels .
