Whisky MICHEL COUVREUR - Blossoming Auld Sherried - L3509 - 45%
The house of Michel Couvreur, established in Burgundy, embodies one of the most unique and respected approaches in the world of whisky. More than a distiller, Michel Couvreur was above all a visionary maturer, convinced that the essence of a whisky’s character is born from the choice of cask and the slowness of aging. His cellars, dug into the rock, offer ideal conditions of humidity and freshness, allowing the malts to mature with great gentleness while gaining exceptional aromatic depth. The house continues today this rare tradition of micro-cuvées, crafted like great aging wines, where each cask is observed, understood, and bottled according to its own rhythm. Blossoming Auld Sherried is one of the most emblematic expressions of this art of maturation, having become over the years a true legend for lovers of rich and opulent whiskies.
Blossoming Auld Sherried L3509 comes from a single exceptional sherry cask carefully selected among the greatest Andalusian coopers. After having held generous wines for many years, this cask has imparted to the malt a unique patina, intensely fruity and almost liqueur-like. The whisky matures there for a long time, without rush, until reaching a point of balance where power, sweetness, and complexity perfectly harmonize. Bottling at natural strength, without reduction and without chill filtration, preserves the full aromatic profile and the silky texture developed over the years. Each batch, like this L3509, reveals its own personality, shaped by time, wood, and the meticulous care given by the house. The result stands out by a decidedly sherry style, deep, dense, and harmonious, worthy of the greatest single malts for contemplation.
On tasting, Blossoming Auld Sherried L3509 shows a dark mahogany color with ruby highlights, immediately announcing great concentration. The nose is sumptuous, enveloping, unfolding aromas of candied black fruits, fig, date, prune, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, warm caramel, beeswax, and old noble wood. On the palate, the texture is velvety, almost oily, with remarkable breadth where brown sugar, macerated raisins, soft spices, fine leather, and a slightly balsamic touch succeed one another. The aromatic depth is such that the flavors seem to layer in successive strata, culminating in an endless finish, rich, warm, marked by sherry, dried fruits, cocoa, and a hint of elegant rancio. This great malt is ideally enjoyed neat, slowly, and pairs magnificently with intense dark chocolate, a dried fruit dessert, or a refined cigar.
