MILLONARIO - Number 15 - Reserva Especial - New Packaging - 40%
The Millonario house, originating from northern Peru, has built an international reputation thanks to its smooth, complex rums aged for a long time under tropical climate. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century in the Chiclayo region, it has preserved traditional know-how combining mastery of local cane, slow fermentation, and distillation in old Scottish column stills. Aging is at the heart of its identity, with maturation in bourbon and sherry casks following a method close to solera, offering round, velvety, and indulgent rums. Number 15 Reserva Especial is one of Millonario's emblematic cuvées, symbolizing this smooth and accessible style that has won over many enthusiasts worldwide. The release of the new packaging modernizes the house's image while retaining the visual warmth that characterizes its rums, between Peruvian craftsmanship and contemporary elegance.
Millonario Número 15 Reserva Especial 40% is made from molasses derived from local sugarcane, slowly fermented to develop a natural aromatic richness before precise distillation aiming for roundness and softness of the distillate. The rum is then aged for many years in a combination of American oak barrels and sherry casks, allowing a subtle balance between vanilla, dried fruits, caramel, and slightly oxidative notes. The final profile is the result of a blending work where different maturities unite to create a smooth and generous harmony typical of the Millonario style. Bottling at forty percent offers a supple texture, very accessible, ideal for neat tasting as well as an introduction to aged rums inspired by South America. The new bottle highlights the Peruvian heritage while adopting a more elegant line, reinforcing its status as a rum for pleasure and sharing.
On tasting, Millonario Número 15 shows a deep amber color with coppery reflections. The nose is rich and indulgent, marked by melted caramel, vanilla, raisins, fig, and a hint of walnut recalling its aging in sherry casks. On the palate, the attack is soft and velvety, with a full body where brown sugar, candied fruits, light honey, date, and a touch of milk chocolate mingle. The texture remains round, comfortable, supported by a controlled warmth that never overpowers the aromas. The finish is smooth, slightly syrupy, marked by soft spices, caramel, and dried fruits, in a very indulgent style. This rum is ideally enjoyed neat or on the rocks but also pairs very well with chocolate cake, walnut tart, caramel dessert, or a mild cigar. In cocktails, it expresses all its character in a gourmet Old Fashioned or a revisited Mai Tai.
