Néret Vély Champagne - Ode to Life - Blanc de Noirs
Located in Festigny, in the heart of the Marne Valley, the Néret Vély family estate cultivates an artisanal vision of Champagne based on precise grape ripeness and respect for the soil. The plots lie on clay-limestone soils, which promote expressive and structured wines, while vineyard management prioritizes meticulous work to preserve the vines' vitality. The house style emphasizes the vibrancy of the fruit, the saline expression of the terroir, and patient aging that refines the bubbles without overpowering them.
Ode à la Vie is a Blanc de Noirs of character, made from a selection of plots centered on Meunier de Festigny. The grapes are gently pressed to extract a clear and pure juice, then fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature to preserve aromatic precision. Extended aging on the lees in tank and bottle refines the texture and adds depth, while a measured dosage in extra brut allows the limestone energy and savoriness of the terroir to express themselves. The aim is a clean and vibrant expression, true to the luscious and taut profile of the Marne hillsides.
The nose opens with fresh pear, crisp apple, and lemon zest, joined by hints of mirabelle plum, white almond, and a veil of delicate pastry. The palate combines structure and breadth with a precise effervescence that coats the palate without weighing it down. The mid-palate unfolds with juicy white fruits, a touch of crisp red berries, and a chalky minerality that elongates the structure. The finish is long and dry, marked by a tonic salinity, a hint of citrus, and a lingering sweet spice that invites the next sip.
At the table, Ode à la Vie pairs well with oysters, shellfish sashimi, and sea bream tartare with citrus. Its saline character complements sole meunière, pike-perch with beurre blanc sauce, and free-range chicken roasted with lemon. Hard cheeses such as a mature Comté or a slightly fruity sheep's milk tomme highlight its balance of richness and tension.
Grape variety: 92% Pinot Meunier, 8% Pinot Noir
