Château DUHART-MILON ROTHSCHILD 2019
In Pauillac, Château Duhart-Milon occupies a terroir of deep gravel soils located in the extension of the plots of Château Lafite Rothschild. Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the property has belonged to the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite since 1962 and has since benefited from significant vineyard restructuring work. Cabernet Sauvignon naturally dominates the grape blend and finds ideal conditions in the gravelly soils of Pauillac to develop depth, freshness, and longevity. Merlot completes the blend by bringing more flesh and suppleness to the mid-palate. The influence of the Gironde estuary promotes regular ripening and limits thermal excesses, an essential element in sunny vintages. The style of Duhart-Milon is distinguished by a classic architecture, a straightforward fruit expression, and an ability to evolve slowly in the bottle. The 2019 vintage combines maturity, density, and freshness in a particularly harmonious register.
Château Duhart-Milon Rothschild 2019 blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. This high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine a precise and persistent framework, dominated by blackcurrant, graphite, and fine spices. Merlot adds more volume and roundness while contributing to the balance of the mid-palate. The different plots are vinified separately to preserve their identity before composing the final blend. Extraction is conducted with restraint to build structure without hardening the naturally ripe tannins in this vintage. Aging in French oak barrels gradually accompanies the wine and refines its texture while respecting the fruit expression. The 2019 currently shows beautiful cohesion, but its density and balance still give it significant aging potential.
The color shows a deep garnet with still strong ruby reflections. The nose opens on blackcurrant, blackberry, and black plum, then develops nuances of cedar, graphite, and violet. Aeration gradually reveals blond tobacco, licorice, cocoa, and fine spicy notes. The palate is structured and precise, with fine tannins that provide depth without weighing down the whole. Cabernet Sauvignon brings tension and length, while Merlot rounds out the body and enhances its velvety character. The finish extends on black fruits, spices, graphite, and a slight smoky touch, in a very classic Pauillac style. Château Duhart-Milon Rothschild 2019 will accompany roasted rack of lamb, beef fillet with porcini mushrooms, pigeon, duck breast, or feathered game.
