Domaine de Disznoko - Tokaji Dry Furmint 2024
Disznókő is one of the emblematic estates of Tokaj, a historic region in northeastern Hungary where the vine thrives on volcanic slopes among the most renowned in Central Europe. The name of the estate, which can be associated with the "wild boar's rock," refers to an ancient wine-growing landscape mentioned as early as the 15th century and marked by a strong geological identity. Long recognized for its great Tokaji Aszú wines, Disznókő has also played an important role in the rediscovery of the region's dry white wines. Since the estate was taken over by AXA Millésimes in 1992, the vineyard has undergone precise work aimed at restoring the potential of the historic plots. The volcanic soils, favorable exposures, and climatic influences of Tokaj give Furmint an expression that is both tense, saline, and deeply mineral. This Tokaji Dry Furmint 2024 reflects the desire to offer a readable, pure, and modern Hungarian dry white wine without giving up the strong identity of its terroir.
The Domaine de Disznókő Tokaji Dry Furmint 2024 is made exclusively from Furmint, the major white grape variety of Tokaj, known for its natural acidity, aromatic precision, and ability to express the soils. The grapes were hand-harvested between late August and early September, in a particularly early 2024 vintage marked by high temperatures. Several plots of the Disznókő vineyard were harvested and vinified separately to preserve the nuance of each origin before the final blend. Whole clusters were pressed directly, then the musts were settled overnight before fermentation. Vinification took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, without malolactic fermentation, to preserve the freshness and clarity of the wine. The 4-month aging on fine lees in stainless steel adds a fuller texture while respecting the dry, lively, and crystalline character of the cuvée. In this warm vintage, the wine retains a beautiful freshness, with a balance built around the purity of the fruit and mineral tension.
On tasting, the Disznókő Tokaji Dry Furmint 2024 reveals a pale yellow color with green reflections, typical of a young and bright dry white. The nose opens with aromas of green apple, grapefruit, pear, stone fruits, and almond, complemented by a herbaceous and slightly spicy touch. On the palate, the attack is fresh and precise, with a round acidity that supports the body without harshness. The texture, enhanced by aging on fine lees, gives the wine a pleasant presence and a well-controlled sense of volume. The finish lingers on saline and mineral notes, bringing length and an impression of great drinkability. This dry Tokaj Furmint will pair very well with oysters, seafood, lightly sauced fish, poultry, composed salads, or a refined aperitif. It is recommended to enjoy it young, within two years of bottling, to fully appreciate its fresh fruit, liveliness, and mineral character.
