Domaine de Villaine - Côte Chalonnaise - La Fortune 2024
The Domaine A. & P. de Villaine, located in Bouzeron in Côte Chalonnaise, holds a unique place in the Burgundy landscape. Founded by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine, then managed by Pierre de Benoist, it has established itself through demanding organic viticulture and a precise reading of the terroirs of the Côte Chalonnaise. The La Fortune 2024 cuvée comes from the eponymous lieu-dit, neighboring La Digoine, with soil, climate, and exposure particularly favorable to Pinot Noir. The domaine notes that the vines here are younger than those of La Digoine, producing a wine that is softer, more immediate, and open. This cuvée thus embodies an ideal entry point into the Villaine style, with a pure, fresh, and accessible Burgundian expression. However, it remains faithful to the spirit of the domaine, favoring balance, delicacy, and clarity of place.
The 2024 vintage delivers a very charming expression of Pinot Noir, carried by a dense, floral, and fruity nose. The aromas evoke wild strawberry, raspberry, crunchy red berries, and a touch of sweet spices. A slightly peppery, almost spicy nuance adds relief to the whole, while a discreet milky note enhances the sensation of indulgence. On the palate, the wine is airy, supple, and particularly digestible, with a tangy framework that preserves freshness. The tannins are fine, delicate, and silky, drawing a juicy and elegant finish. It is a red of pure pleasure, designed to be shared in its youth without losing the precision that characterizes the domaine's wines.
Served around 15 to 16°C, La Fortune 2024 will perfectly accompany roasted poultry, white meats, fine charcuterie, pâté en croûte, or mild cheeses. It is advisable to avoid overly powerful sauces or too strong seasonings to respect its natural finesse. Its freshness and bright fruit also make it a very nice convivial meal wine, ideal with simple but carefully prepared cuisine. To be enjoyed in the first years following bottling, it will then offer all its spontaneity, crunchiness, and fruity charm. La Fortune 2024 accurately illustrates the pleasure-driven Burgundy according to Villaine: a sincere, tender, precise Pinot Noir deeply attached to its terroir.
