Domaine Jérémy Recchione - Saint Romain Village 2024

In the heights of the Côte de Beaune, Saint-Romain offers a more secret face of Burgundy, marked by altitude, limestone cliffs, and often slower maturities than on the most famous slopes. Jérémy Recchione fits into this Burgundy of precision and micro-volumes, with wines that prioritize the sincerity of the fruit, natural tension, and a minimally interventionist reading of the place. Since 2017, Julie and Jérémy Recchione have been gradually building a domaine from demanding négociant work, close relationships with organic winegrowers, and acquiring their own plots. The wines are produced in very limited quantities, seeking transparency and emotion rather than imposed style. This Saint-Romain Village 2024 belongs to this family of confidential bottles that lovers of artisanal Burgundy follow closely. The appellation here brings its mineral relief, nervous freshness, and elegant austerity that suits Chardonnay particularly well. It is a hillside white, straight, saline, built on clarity rather than opulence.

This cuvée comes from the Jarron terroir, located on the southwest part of Saint-Romain. The soils are composed of marls and limestone scree, two elements that give the wine a mineral base, clear freshness, and a naturally tense finish. Chardonnay finds here a more vertical than sunny expression, with measured maturity and a very marked mouth energy. The vinification is done by direct pressing, then fermentation is conducted in Clayver ceramic and 500-liter barrels. This choice of containers allows combining precision, breathing, and texture without emphasizing the wine through overly marked aging. The 2024 production is indicated as extremely limited, around 289 bottles, placing this cuvée among the rarest bottles of the domaine. This Saint-Romain therefore does not only play the appellation card: it offers an intimate reading of a precise terroir, in an almost confidential volume.

The color presents itself in a bright light yellow, with pale reflections announcing a white of freshness and tension. The nose evokes ripe lemon, fresh pear, white apple, and light flowers, then slides towards more mineral notes of chalk, wet stone, and fine almond. On the palate, the attack is clear, straight, carried by precise acidity that immediately gives movement to the wine. The matter remains slender, but the passage in ceramic and 500-liter barrels brings a subtle texture, a slight volume, and discreet depth. The finish prolongs citrus, white fruits, and a very Burgundian salinity, with this impression of a dry, pure, and persistent mouthfeel. This Saint-Romain will pair very well with pan-seared scallops, a noble fish in lemon sauce, crustaceans, farm poultry, mushroom risotto, or aged goat cheese. Served around 10 to 12°C, in a fairly open glass, it will better reveal its limestone relief, altitude energy, and the finesse of its aging.
