Domaine Morey Coffinet - Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean 2024
The Domaine Morey-Coffinet, located in Chassagne-Montrachet in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, stands out as one of the most precise and committed signatures of current Burgundy. Managed under certified organic farming FR-BIO-01, the vineyard undergoes meticulous soil work by tractor inter-row cultivation and crawler tractor, promoting deep rooting and faithful expression of the terroir. The estate's philosophy is based on controlled yields, manual harvesting, and low-intervention vinifications. Each plot is worked with the same rigor, whether it concerns grand crus or confidential micro-productions. The Clos Saint Jean is one of these rare treasures of the estate.
The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean 2024 comes from a very small area of 0.20 hectares, facing southeast, on fairly limestone clay soils. The vines, planted in 1978, are trained in simple Guyot, ensuring balance and regularity. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, this premier cru benefits from precise vinification followed by aging of 14 to 16 months in 228 and 350-liter oak barrels, of which 40 to 50% are new wood. The wine is unfined, unfiltered, then bottled with a natural cork of Extra quality and sealed with wax, emphasizing its confidential and high-end character. This tiny production enhances the rarity and desirability of the cuvée.
On tasting, the Clos Saint Jean 2024 reveals an intense nose of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and violet, accompanied by subtle spicy and slightly woody notes. The palate is elegant and structured, supported by fine and ripe tannins perfectly integrated. The balance between depth, freshness, and tension gives the wine great precision and a beautiful length. The finish is persistent, delicately mineral and refined. This premier cru can ideally be enjoyed between 3 and 6 years after bottling, while offering additional aging potential.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
