Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey - Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes 2023
The Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, a region worldwide renowned for its great white wines made from Chardonnay. Founded in the mid-2000s by Pierre-Yves Colin after leaving the family estate Marc Colin, the domaine quickly established itself as one of the major references of the new Burgundy generation. The vineyard now extends over approximately thirteen hectares spread across several prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune, notably Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault. The vines are cultivated with a careful approach to soils and natural balances to best reveal the personality of each climat. The vinification relies on precise work with whole cluster pressing, natural fermentations, and long aging in demi-muids to support the structure of the wines without masking their origin. The Les Chenevottes climat is part of the premier crus of Chassagne-Montrachet, an appellation known for the finesse and complexity of its great Chardonnays. The 2023 vintage of this cuvée fits within the pursuit of balance and precision that characterizes the domaine's style.
The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2023 is made exclusively from Chardonnay coming from several parcels located on this premier cru climat. Part of the vines come from a parcel acquired by Pierre-Yves Colin in the early 2000s, complemented by other family parcels from the Morey family. The clay-limestone soils characteristic of the Côte de Beaune favor a gradual ripening of the grapes while maintaining a natural acidity essential to the wine's balance. The grapes are gently pressed whole cluster to preserve the purity of the juice. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by prolonged aging on fine lees in large containers, with a moderate proportion of new wood to preserve the terroir's clarity. This low-intervention winemaking approach highlights the aromatic precision and structure of the Chardonnay. The result is a balanced premier cru combining richness of matter, mineral tension, and great elegance.
On the palate, Les Chenevottes 2023 reveals a fine nose dominated by aromas of ripe apple, white peach, and yellow-fleshed fruits, accompanied by notes of citrus and delicate flowers. The mouth is ample and balanced, supported by a lively acidity that brings energy and precision. The flavors evoke ripe lemon, pear, and sometimes a slight touch of hazelnut linked to barrel aging. The whole presents a harmonious structure where the richness of the fruit balances with a persistent mineral framework. The finish, long and salivating, emphasizes the freshness and depth of the Chenevottes terroir. This white Burgundy wine ideally accompanies shellfish, noble fish, creamy poultry dishes, or mushroom-based dishes. Thanks to its structure and aging, it also has aging potential that will allow it to gain complexity over the years.
