Domaine Roland Lavantureux - Petit Chablis - Les Grenouilleres 2023
Domaine Roland Lavantureux is a solid reference in the Chablis region, located in Lignorelles, north of Chablis. The family history is rooted in a long winemaking tradition, with lands passed down through several generations and bottling developed by Roland Lavantureux since 1979. Today, Arnaud and David Lavantureux continue this dynamic with a complete range of Chablis wines, from Petit Chablis to Premiers and Grands Crus. The estate is recognized for producing precise, frank, and very readable whites, in a style that highlights freshness, fruit purity, and the mineral identity of Chablis. The 2023 Les Grenouilleres represents the most accessible expression of this signature, without sacrificing seriousness or precision. This cuvée takes its name from the clayey surface soils, once wetter, which reminded of water spots appreciated by frogs. It embodies a pleasurable Petit Chablis, bright and perfectly suited to lovers of fresh and elegant Burgundian whites.
The Petit Chablis Les Grenouilleres 2023 cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay, the sole grape variety of the great whites of Chablis. The vines are located in the commune of Lignorelles, on south and southeast-facing slopes, a favorable exposure for good ripeness while preserving the natural freshness of the wine. Planted in the 1980s, they produce a balanced material, expressive enough to offer fruit, but always held by the liveliness typical of the appellation. The clayey surface soils bring a sensation of richness and concentration unusual for a Petit Chablis. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic precision and the clarity of Chardonnay. The aging of about 10 months mainly combines stainless steel tanks, to preserve freshness, with a small proportion of used barrels, which adds a touch of texture. The result is a dry, straight, and accessible white, but with a true terroir personality.
In the glass, Domaine Roland Lavantureux Petit Chablis Les Grenouilleres 2023 reveals a clear yellow robe, bright and very luminous. The nose opens on white-fleshed fruits, fresh apple, pear, lemon, and delicate citrus, with a discreet floral sensation. The palate is supple on the attack, then quickly refreshed by a clear and salivating liveliness. The fruit remains precise, pure, and pleasant, carried by a fresh finish that extends the aromas without heaviness. The small part of barrel aging brings a slight extra roundness, but the style remains primarily focused on freshness, tension, and drinkability. This Petit Chablis will perfectly accompany oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, gougère, a seafood starter, light poultry, or fresh goat cheese. Serve around 10 to 12°C, in its youth, to fully enjoy its brightness and thirst-quenching character.
