Jérôme Bretaudeau - Domaine de Bellevue - Statera 2024
Jérôme Bretaudeau is today one of the most fascinating winemakers in the Nantes region, heading Domaine de Bellevue, located in Gétigné. Long associated with Muscadet, this Loire area has found with him a new voice, capable of revealing terroirs of unsuspected depth. His work goes far beyond the traditional image of the region, with a range that explores Melon de Bourgogne, but also Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, as well as more experimental cuvées. Statera 2024 holds a special place in this universe, as it is one of the rarest and most sought-after cuvées of the estate. Having a few bottles of Statera is almost an event, given the confidential allocations and strong demand among enthusiasts. This cuvée brilliantly shows that a great Pinot Noir can be born in the Nantes land when carried by such a demanding winemaker. It is a collector's wine, of curiosity and emotion, intended for passionate people seeking exceptional bottles.
The Statera 2024 cuvée is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, a grape variety rarely associated with the Nantes region but magnificently interpreted here. The grapes come from soils of gabbro, granite, and quartz, which give the wine a mineral tension, a particular freshness, and an uncommon depth for a red of this origin. The name Statera evokes balance, and this idea perfectly sums up the ambition of the cuvée: to unite finesse, intensity, and precision of texture. The vinification is delicate, with a focus on infusion rather than extraction, to preserve the grain of the Pinot Noir and the brightness of the fruit. Aging in barrels brings structure, complexity, and a subtle patina, without seeking to dominate the expression of the terroir. The 2024 vintage should enhance the momentum, freshness, and aromatic precision of this already mythical cuvée. Statera is not a classic Loire red, but a free, rare, and deeply personal interpretation of Pinot Noir.
In the glass, Domaine de Bellevue Statera 2024 reveals a profile of great finesse, both luminous, airy, and intensely expressive. The nose evokes red cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, rose, peony, and blood orange, with nuances of fine pepper, eucalyptus, and wet stone. The palate is juicy, silky, and vibrant, supported by a fine acidity that gives the wine a lot of energy. The tannins are delicate, almost chalky, with a lace-like texture reminiscent of great Pinot Noirs worked in nuance rather than power. The finish is long, saline, and floral, with a sensation of purity that extends the tasting well beyond the fruit. This wine can be drunk after a few years in the cellar, but it will benefit from waiting to reveal all its mineral depth and aromatic complexity. It will ideally accompany roasted poultry, pigeon, veal with morels, a delicate beef fillet, mushroom risotto, or a mildly aged cheese.
