The Cross of Carbonnieux 2020
La Croix de Carbonnieux 2020, the second wine of Château Carbonnieux in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, faithfully reflects the elegance and depth of the great wine from which it is produced. The estate, founded in the 13th century and owned by the Perrin family, is one of the historic Graves crus, renowned as much for its distinguished reds as for its highly pure whites.
The sunny yet balanced 2020 vintage produced perfectly ripe, concentrated, and aromatic grapes. The blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, comes from young vines and carefully selected plots of the great Carbonnieux terroir. Vinified with the same high standards as the first wine and aged in French oak barrels, it combines accessibility and finesse.
The nose reveals a seductive bouquet of ripe black fruits, violet and licorice, enhanced by subtle smoky notes and sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is supple and fleshy, carried by velvety tannins and a beautiful freshness. The mid-palate, balanced and delicious, expresses the roundness of Merlot, while the finish, long and slightly graphite, signs the elegance of the Pessac gravel.
A harmonious and refined Pessac-Léognan, perfect now but capable of becoming more complex over five to eight years. It will be ideal with roast veal chops, duck breast, or mushroom risotto. Serve between 16 and 17°C.
