OCTOMORE - 16.2 - Edition 2025 - 58.1%
Octomore 16.2 – Edition 2025, bottled at 58.1%, is a masterful new variation on the transparent peat concept developed by the Bruichladdich distillery on the Isle of Islay. True to the house's experimental spirit, this edition explores the influence of red wine casks on the world's most intensely peated distillate, revealing a striking balance between power and elegance.
Distilled in 2017 from Scottish barley from the 2016 harvest, this single malt boasts a peat content measured at 208 ppm, a record for aromatic concentration. Aged in a blend of Rivesaltes, Ribera del Duero, and Burgundy red wine casks, it combines fruity richness with smoky depth. Bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration or coloring, it retains all of its original texture and intensity.
The nose opens with a fascinating dialogue between dry smoke and candied black fruits: blackberry, morello cherry, and plum, enhanced by notes of leather, cocoa, and toasted oak. On the palate, the power is immediate, but superbly contained by the wine's roundness. The aromatic profile combines warm peat, dark chocolate, stewed red fruits, and a touch of salt. The texture, rich and silky, evolves into a long, vibrant, and slightly spicy finish, where smoke, ripe fruits, and noble wood intertwine.
An Octomore of refined intensity, combining the fire of Islay malt with the sensuality of great red wines. A dense, precise and captivating expression, which demonstrates Bruichladdich's absolute mastery of multi-cask aging.
