KRUG - CLOS DU MESNIL 2006
Krug is a Champagne house that was created by Joseph Krug in 1843, a native of the Mosel region in Germany. The house has been in the Krug family for 6 generations and is known today as one of the most collectible and expensive Champagne. Joseph Krug worked along Jacquesson when he moved to France and he began to craft a premium wine from a reserve of wines vinified separately that would eventually become the Grande Cuvée. Krug is a blend of 120 different wines from 10 or more vintages coming from the “Krug Library”. Every year, the cellarmaster heads a tasting committee who decide on the final blend. Krug Vintage is only produced in the best years.
Krug Clos du Mesnil, a very rare Champagne, highlights the unique character of a single plot of Chardonnay. This 1.84-hectare vineyard, dominated by the village church, has been protected by ramparts since 1698. The vineyard is located in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most emblematic villages of Chardonnay in Champagne. The year 2006 was considered hot in Champagne, with extreme peaks and 23 days recorded at over 30°C. It was a capricious climate that went from dry spells to heavy rains: in August, the equivalent of 2 months of rain fell in just 2 weeks. Fortunately, the sun came back to complete the ripening period, resulting in a beautiful harvest.
