Château DE PEZ 2003
Château de Pez is located in Saint-Estèphe , in the Bordeaux wine region. The Pez estate was originally created in the 15th century, but the vines were added later by the Pontac family (then owners of Château Haut-Brion) who regained control of the estate in 1585. It was passed down from generation to generation by the Pontac family until the French Revolution, when it became the property of the French state. Throughout the 20th century, different owners succeeded one another. Since 1995, the owners have been the Rouzaud family , which also owns the Louis Roederer champagne house, Château Bernadotte and Château Haut-Beauséjour in Saint-Estèphe, as well as Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac. The property extends over 48 hectares, of which 42 hectares are planted with vines. The vineyard is located on a high plateau whose soils are made up of Günzian gravel on the limestone and clayey base of Saint-Estèphe. The cellars were thoroughly modernized in 2018. They have been reorganized to allow parcel vinification.
Château de Pez is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc . The wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new. The 2003 vintage for Bordeaux was very good despite extremely hot weather conditions. The year saw unprecedented record heat which created an extraordinary vintage. The growing season was extremely hot and dry and temperatures remained high throughout the nights and days. Some welcome rainfall in September relieved the vineyard, especially in the north of the Médoc.
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc
