Château Haut-Bergey - Double Magnum 2015
Château Haut Bergey, located in the heart of Pessac Léognan, is one of those estates that have successfully reinvented themselves with ambition and precision. Under the impetus of the Garcin family, the property has been profoundly transformed thanks to a conversion to organic farming and then to biodynamics, a thorough work on soil vitality, and a respectful, minimally interventionist winemaking approach. Situated on soils mixing gravel, sand, and clay, the vineyard benefits from a mosaic of terroirs particularly favorable to the expression of the red grape varieties of the left bank. The 2015 vintage, sunny and perfectly balanced by cool nights, ranks among the greatest of the decade for the appellation. Presented in double magnum, this wine gains even more elegance, aromatic purity, and aging potential, the large format allowing a slower and more harmonious evolution of the tannins. Château Haut Bergey 2015 reveals itself here in a more majestic dimension, crafted for grand tables as well as for the cellar of patient enthusiasts.
Château Haut Bergey Double Magnum 2015 comes from a classic blend for the estate, composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, vinified separately to preserve the uniqueness of each grape variety. The harvest, carried out at optimal maturity, allowed obtaining concentrated, structured berries perfectly suited for long aging. After controlled fermentations in temperature-regulated vats, the wine is aged for about eighteen months in French oak barrels, including a significant proportion of new barrels, to bring depth, soft spices, and texture without ever overpowering the fruit. The 2015 vintage, remarkable for its maturity and freshness, particularly highlights the natural balance between the silky Merlot and the straight, chiselled Cabernet. The double magnum emphasizes this harmony by maintaining the wine's tension and intact concentration, while allowing it to reach a slower, more vertical, and nobler expression over time.
On the palate, Château Haut Bergey Double Magnum 2015 reveals a deep purple robe with still violet reflections, a sign of very good aging potential. The nose opens with a generous bouquet blending blackcurrant, blackberry, black plum, and cherry, enhanced by notes of violet, graphite, licorice, and delicately smoky oak. On the palate, the attack is ample, fleshy, supported by velvety tannins of great finesse and a fresh structure that stretches the wine with precision. The mid-palate reveals a dense yet elegant texture, where black fruits mingle with touches of cocoa, blond tobacco, and soft spices. The finish, long, tense, and perfectly balanced, affirms the gravelly identity of Pessac Léognan, with remarkable aromatic persistence. At the table, this double magnum will elevate a dry-aged rib of beef, roasted milk lamb, game birds, a Rossini-style beef fillet, or a matured hard cheese.
