Champagne Lacourte Godbillon - Terroirs d'Ecueil
Champagne Lacourte-Godbillon , located in Écueil in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, belongs to a family of artisan winemakers who have restored the Champagne terroir to its former glory. For several generations, the house has passionately cultivated its Premier Cru vineyards, prioritizing sustainable viticulture that respects biodiversity. Under the guidance of Sébastien and Géraldine Lacourte, the estate is moving towards a precise, plot-by-plot approach, in order to sincerely express the unique character of the Écueil terroir, dominated by Pinot Noir.
The Terroirs d'Écueil cuvée is the estate's signature wine. It blends grapes from the village's various vineyard sites, planted primarily with Pinot Noir, complemented by a touch of Chardonnay. Partially vinified in oak barrels and aged on its fine lees for several months before bottling, it highlights the depth and texture of the terroir while retaining a beautiful natural freshness. The measured dosage (Brut) emphasizes the purity of the fruit without masking the chalky minerality typical of the chalk and sandy soils.
On the nose, this champagne reveals an expressive array of fresh red fruits, ripe apple, and citrus, enhanced by notes of delicate brioche, hazelnut, and white flowers. On the palate, the texture is ample, silky, and balanced, underpinned by a beautiful tension. The Pinot Noir brings volume and depth, while the Chardonnay imparts remarkable elegance and verticality. The long, saline finish leaves an impression of purity and energy.
This artisanal champagne can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with a meal, where it pairs wonderfully with scallop carpaccio, roast poultry, or aged Comté cheese. A precise, vibrant, and authentic terroir-driven wine, it perfectly reflects the identity of Écueil and the expertise of the Lacourte-Godbillon house.
