Château Baret - White 2021
Château Baret is a historic estate in Pessac-Léognan, located in Villenave-d’Ornon, on the outskirts of Bordeaux. This beautiful 18th-century charterhouse is set in an almost urban environment but preserves a vineyard surrounding the château, on terroirs typical of the Graves. The estate has belonged to the Ballande family since 1867, a family of Bordeaux merchants and shipowners who helped restore the rightful place of this discreet property within the appellation. The soils dedicated to whites, cooler, mix clay, limestone, and gravel, offering favorable conditions for producing fresh, taut, and aromatic wines. Château Baret White 2021 expresses this elegant facet of Pessac-Léognan, where Sauvignon Blanc brings brightness and Sémillon texture. The estate’s HVE3 certification highlights an engaged environmental approach, without corresponding to organic certification. This Bordeaux white seduces with its balance between freshness, roundness, and classic distinction.
The cuvée Château Baret White 2021 is made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, the two emblematic grape varieties of Bordeaux’s great dry whites. Sauvignon Blanc gives the wine its liveliness, citrus aromas, white flowers, and aromatic tension. Sémillon complements the blend with more body, volume, and a more enveloping sensation on the palate. The white grapes are generally harvested early in the morning by hand to preserve fruit, acidity, and aromatic precision. Vinification and aging take place in barrels on lees for 8 to 10 months, which adds depth, a slightly toasted touch, and a more gastronomic texture. The 2021 vintage, cooler in Bordeaux, is particularly well suited to dry whites, enhancing the tension and clarity of the profile. The result is an elegant, expressive, and well-structured Pessac-Léognan white, both accessible young and capable of evolving over a few years.
In the glass, Château Baret White 2021 reveals a clear and bright robe with pale yellow reflections. The nose opens with citrus, lemon, grapefruit, white peach, and fine flowers, with a slightly brioche nuance linked to lees aging. The palate is fresh, straight, and harmonious, supported by a beautiful mineral tension. The texture remains supple, with a discreet roundness balancing the liveliness of the Sauvignon Blanc. The finish extends the wine on notes of citrus, white fruits, and a finely toasted touch, in a clean and refined style. This Pessac-Léognan white will perfectly accompany oysters, a seafood platter, grilled fish, scallops, creamy poultry, or fresh goat cheese. Serve around 10 to 12°C in a medium-sized glass to preserve its freshness while allowing its texture to express itself.
