Château Le Puy - Emilien 2022
Château Le Puy Émilien 2022 embodies one of the most unique and lively expressions of contemporary Bordeaux. Established in Saint-Cibard since 1610, the Amoreau family cultivates this historic estate with rare fidelity to its terroir and natural practices. Located on the heights of the right bank of Bordeaux, the vineyard overlooks the Dordogne valley and benefits from a preserved environment where vines, meadows, trees, hedges, and biodiversity play an essential role. The estate has established itself as an essential reference for lovers of non-standardized, deep, and digestible Bordeaux wines. Émilien is the signature cuvée of Château Le Puy, the one that most directly translates the family spirit, the place, and the vintage. The 2022, from a sunny year, still retains remarkable freshness and an airy texture. It is a Bordeaux with character, both gourmand, natural in its expression, and with great elegance of touch.
The cuvée is based on a blend dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Carménère. This traditional right bank composition brings the wine a beautiful complexity, between ripe fruit, freshness, spices, and depth. Merlot provides roundness, flesh, and velvety texture, while the Cabernets structure the palate and bring tension. Malbec and Carménère, present in discreet touches, enhance the spicy dimension and the uniqueness of the whole. The vinification is done by infusion, with indigenous yeasts, in a logic of gentle extraction and respect for the material. The 24-month aging, shared between large oak vats and experienced barrels, allows refining the wine without marking it with dominant oak. The result is a free, precise, and vibrant Bordeaux red, faithful to the very personal identity of Château Le Puy.
In the glass, this wine reveals a bright and deep garnet robe. The nose opens on black cherry, rhubarb, pink pepper berries, and ripe red fruits, with a floral touch and a slightly spicy nuance. The palate is round, gourmand, and airy, carried by pure fruit and very characteristic chalky tannins. The balance rests on beautiful freshness, which naturally lightens the richness of the vintage and gives the wine great drinkability. The finish is long, salivating, and delicately mineral, with persistence on black cherry, sweet spices, and a sensation of fresh stone. This 2022 can be drunk young after an hour of aeration, but it will also gain depth with a few years of aging. It will ideally accompany duck breast, veal roast, farm poultry, beef tartare, roasted mushrooms, veal chop, or aged cheese.
