Domaine Andrée - Les Faraunières 2021
In Saint Cyr-en-Bourg, Stéphane Erissé's Domaine Andrée explores the great faces of the Loire Valley with the rigor of an artisanal winemaker. Soils are worked with care, yields are contained, and ripeness is just right. The style emphasizes purity, density without heaviness, and a salty mineral signature that lends itself to both food and cellaring.
Les Faraunières 2021 is a Chenin cuvée from a clay and schist hillside. A cool vintage in the Loire region, which favors brightness and tension. Hand-picked in small crates, rigorous sorting. Slow pressing, gravity settling, indigenous fermentation. Aged on fine lees in tuns and barrels previously used for several wines for around ten months, with measured stirring to add body without masking the structure. Bottled after prolonged cellar rest. Limited quantities, allocation sought.
The nose opens with ripe lemon, pear, white peach, and hawthorn blossom, with a touch of wet chalk and acacia honey in the background. The palate is slender and sapid, with a clean attack followed by a silky texture. The heart of the palate combines zesty citrus, fresh apple, and almond, carried by chiseled acidity and a salinity that lengthens. The finish is long, straight, and slightly smoky, with a stony aftertaste and a noble citrus peel bitterness that calls for the next glass.
At the table, pair Les Faraunières 2021 with fine de claire oysters, sea bass tartare, sashimi, pikeperch with beurre blanc, roast poultry with a short jus, or mature Anjou goat cheese. Serve between 10 and 12°C in a tulip glass to channel the bouquet. Open 30 minutes before serving or decant briefly if the bottle is young. Estimated ageing: five to eight years depending on conditions.
