Domaine Jacques Frédéric Mugnier - Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale Blanc 2023
Located at Château de Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Jacques Frédéric Mugnier produces wines of exemplary purity, where meticulous cultivation and discreet intervention preserve the expression of the terroir. In Premeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos de la Maréchale is the estate's historic monopole. On a dedicated plot, Chardonnay vines take root in outcropping limestone, yielding a rare and luminous expression of this Premier Cru white wine.
Clos de la Maréchale Blanc 2023 is harvested at a measured ripeness to balance aromatic vibrancy and tension. The grapes are gently pressed, and the juice is carefully settled. Fermentation takes place in Burgundy barrels with a controlled proportion of new oak to add depth without overpowering the aromatics. Aging on fine lees, with restrained stirring, refines the texture and softens the salinity. Bottling is carried out without unnecessary embellishment to preserve the limestone character of the terroir and the purity of the vintage.
The nose opens with acacia blossom, lemon zest, and fresh pear, joined with aeration by raw almond, a veil of verbena, and a sensation of damp stone. The palate is precise and satiny. The attack is crisp, followed by a mid-palate unfolding with luminous citrus, juicy white fruits, and a chalky texture that elongates the structure. Aging suggests a subtle hint of hazelnut without heaviness. The finish is long, clean, and mouthwatering, with a return of lemon peel, flint, and a precise salinity that prolongs the freshness.
At the table, this Premier Cru white wine pairs well with flat oysters, sea bass ceviche with citrus, sole meunière, or turbot roasted in lemon butter. It also finds a perfect match with roasted free-range poultry, asparagus risotto, pan-fried chanterelles, and hard cheeses such as a mature Comté, whose sweetness balances its acidity.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
