Domaine Morey Coffinet - Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée 2024
The Domaine Morey-Coffinet, located in Chassagne-Montrachet in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, stands out as one of the most precise and committed references of contemporary Burgundy. Managed under certified organic farming FR-BIO-01, the estate cultivates its plots with meticulous attention to soil life and the natural balance of the vine. Cultural practices include tracked plowing, promoting deep rooting and a faithful expression of the terroir. The vinifications are minimally interventionist, favoring tension, purity, and depth. Each premier cru reflects a rigorous and sensitive reading of its original climate.
The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée 2024 comes from a 0.81 hectare plot, located on a southeast-facing hillside, benefiting from optimal sunlight. The soil mixes clays, marls, and a notable proportion of limestone, providing both power and minerality. The vines, planted in 1957 and 2015, are managed with simple Guyot, with manual harvesting ensuring a rigorous selection of grapes. The aging lasts 14 to 16 months in 228 and 350-liter oak barrels, including 30 to 50% new wood, bringing structure and complexity without masking the terroir. The wine is fined with bentonite, unfiltered, then corked with a natural cork of Fleur ND Tech quality, sealed with wax, in a concern for excellence and longevity.
On tasting, the 2024 La Romanée reveals an intense nose of white flowers, ripe lemon, and white-fleshed fruits, enriched with subtle notes of hazelnut and warm stone. The palate is ample, structured, and vibrant, carried by remarkable mineral tension and elegant texture. The balance between richness and freshness gives the wine depth and persistent length. The finish is long, saline, and refined, a signature of the great premier crus of Chassagne-Montrachet. This wine can ideally be enjoyed between 3 and 7 years after bottling, while offering potential for further development.
