Plantation - West Indies - Barbados 10 years - Single Cask American Stout Beer - Clos des Millesimes - 47.6%
Plantation West Indies Barbados 10 years Single Cask American Stout Beer Clos des Millésimes is a rare and old edition, from a confidential selection made for Clos des Millésimes in Bordeaux. This Barbados rum comes from the West Indies Rum Distillery, one of the island's historic houses, renowned for its style that is both indulgent, structured, and deeply marked by aging. Made from molasses, it combines copper pot still and column distillation, offering a balance between aromatic breadth, roundness, and precision. This cuvée stands out for its link with the first chapter of the spirit selections of Clos des Millésimes, making it a unique bottle for both enthusiasts and collectors. Its 47.6% strength gives it a strong presence without excess power, with an accessible and generous expression. In the world of Plantation Single Casks, this edition is distinguished by its original finish in American Imperial Stout beer barrels, an uncommon choice that enhances its unique character.
The aging of this Barbados 10 years is based on a three-step construction, faithful to the Plantation approach, now Planteray, around double aging and character finishes. The rum first spent 4 years in a tropical climate in bourbon barrels, developing a warm base of vanilla, coconut, ripe fruits, and toasted oak. It then continued its aging for 5 and a half years in Maison Ferrand barrels, bringing a more polished, round, and spicy dimension. The final step, a 6-month finish in American Imperial Stout beer barrels, gives this edition its most original signature. This finish naturally evokes cocoa, roasted malt, mild coffee, toasted cereal, and a noble bitterness, without masking the sunny indulgence of the Barbadian rum. The whole retains a beautiful clarity, between English tradition, Caribbean richness, and a craft touch from the brewing world.
On tasting, Plantation West Indies Barbados 10 years Single Cask American Stout Beer Clos des Millésimes offers a broad, indulgent, and slightly roasted profile. The nose opens with notes of yellow fruits, vanilla, coconut, almond, and plum, joined by a darker nuance of cocoa, roasted malt, and brown caramel. On the palate, the texture is round and enveloping, with a fruity sweetness reminiscent of peach, pear, cream, chocolate, and ripe tropical fruits. The Imperial Stout barrel finish adds additional depth, almost pastry-like, while establishing a fine bitterness that balances the rum's richness. The finish extends the notes of chocolate, toasted oak, light coffee, and soft spices, with elegant persistence. It is an ideal bottle for lovers of Barbados rums that are both accessible, rare, and endowed with a true barrel personality. Its status as an old edition from Clos des Millésimes further enhances its interest for a tasting or collection cellar.
