Clos Maïa - Red 2020
Clos Maïa is located in La Vacquerie-et-Saint-Martin-de-Castries, in the Terrasses du Larzac appellation in Languedoc . The estate belongs to Géraldine Laval , originally from the south of Charente-Maritime. She completed a BTS Viticulture-Oenology in Beaune and completed her first internship with Olivier Leflaive in 2004. From 2005 to 2006, Géraldine completed her national oenologist diploma in Bordeaux and assisted Jean-Louis Chave at Hermitage for his 2006 vintage. It was in 2007, after obtaining her diploma, that she relocated to the high altitude terroirs of the Terrasses du Larzac. She meets Olivier Jullien from Mas Jullien who will inspire her in the vineyard and in the cellar. She began her adventure in 2009 with two plots of Grenache planted in the heart of the Cirque de Labeil. Today, the plot extends over 6 hectares cultivated in organic farming in the process of certification .
Clos Maïa Rouge is a blend of Grenache (90%) supplemented with old grape varieties: Œillade, Cinsault, Terret Bourret Noir, Aramon … The grapes are harvested manually and rigorously selected on the plot. The vinification is carried out in whole and de-stemmed bunches, with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats. The wine is racked after the alcoholic fermentation in order to start the malolactic fermentation in 20 hectoliter casks . The aging lasts about 18 months .
Grapes: 90% Grenache, 10% Œillade, Cinsault, Terret Bouret Noir, Aramon…
