Anne and Jean-François GANEVAT - Champs Poids 2021
The 2021 Champs Poids cuvée from Anne and Jean-François Ganevat is a great white wine from Jura, made from Chardonnay cultivated on a plot planted in 1986 near Arbois. This named place rests on Bajocian limestone soils, whose chalky nature and freshness play a fundamental role in the wine's balance. The vine is worked with the utmost respect for organic and biodynamic farming by a winemaker friend of the estate, André-Jean Morin, following an approach faithful to Jean-François Ganevat's convictions. This collaboration illustrates a shared vision of respect for life and terroir. The 2021 vintage, marked by high grape maturity, finds a natural counterbalance here thanks to the mineral tension of the subsoil. Champs Poids embodies a deep, precise, and sincere interpretation of Jura Chardonnay. It is a terroir wine, demanding and intensely expressive.
On the nose, the wine stands out for great aromatic purity, blending notes of ripe citrus, fresh apple, and white flowers. Upon aeration, chalky and slightly smoky nuances appear, a direct signature of the limestone soil. On the palate, the attack is both straight and ample, carried by a fine acidity that perfectly balances the fruit's maturity. The texture is rich and enveloping while maintaining a remarkable sensation of freshness. The aromas evolve towards notes of zest, pear, and elegant salinity. The whole offers a deep and structured reading, without heaviness. The finish is long, vibrant, and very precise.
After a very delicate pressing, the juices are vinified as naturally as possible, without any addition of sulfur. The wine is then aged for twenty-four months in demi-muids, fully nourished by its lees, following an approach dear to Jean-François Ganevat. This long aging gives the wine its breadth, depth, and the rich texture so characteristic of the estate's great cuvées. Champs Poids 2021 is a wine for aging, capable of evolving beautifully over the years while retaining its original energy. It appeals to lovers of precise, complex, and deeply terroir-rooted great whites. A reference cuvée of contemporary Jura, combining tension, maturity, and elegance.
