Domaine Les Creisses - Les Creisses Rouge 2024
The Domaine Les Creisses is located in Valros, in the IGP Pays de l’Hérault, in the heart of Languedoc. This family estate, created in the 19th century, was taken over in 1998 by Philippe Chesnelong, who initiated an ambitious qualitative renewal. He is accompanied by his cousin Louis Mitjavile, recognized for his expertise in vinification and aging, bringing a technical precision that deeply marks the style of the wines. The vineyard is managed with sustainable protection, treated as little as possible but as much as necessary, and today benefits from the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification. The estate relies on two distinct terroirs: Les Creisses, a stony clay-limestone plateau of 11 hectares complemented by 20 hectares of Villafranchian gravel hillsides interspersed with woods, and Les Brunes, brown volcanic soils planted notably with Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon. This soil diversity gives the wines structure, depth, and complexity.
The cuvée Les Creisses Rouge 2024 is an emblematic blend combining Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Marselan, Alicante, Mourvèdre, and Carignan. The grapes are destemmed, followed by a long maceration of about 20 days, allowing a controlled extraction of matter and aromas. The aging, carried out between 12 and 18 months, refines the structure and adds an additional dimension without masking the fruit. The 2024 vintage highlights a generous and structured expression, faithful to the estate's signature. This sunny wine combines southern richness with an almost Bordeaux-like backbone, notably brought by the Cabernet Sauvignon.
On tasting, Les Creisses 2024 reveals ripe black fruits, soft spices, a touch of licorice, and a slight mentholated hint that brings freshness and relief. The palate is ample, structured, with a present but harmonious tannic framework. The balance between power, concentration, and freshness gives the wine a beautiful dynamism and a persistent finish. This Languedoc red will perfectly accompany grilled meats, stewed dishes, or generous Mediterranean cuisine. It can be appreciated in its youth after aeration but also has potential for evolution over several years.
