Domaine Sant Armettu - The Hermit of Sant Armettu 2024
Domaine Sant Armettu presents with The Hermit of Sant Armettu 2024 one of its most emblematic cuvées, originating from a landscape deeply marked by southern Corsica. In Olmeto, the vineyards overlook the Gulf of Propriano and the Bay of Tizzano, in an environment where the sea, the maquis, and the granite rock compose a terroir of great intensity. For over sixty years, the estate has developed a personal interpretation of Corsican grape varieties, seeking to preserve their identity rather than smooth them out. The history of Sant Armettu remains linked to this wild land whose name evokes a hermit passionate about plants, a symbolic figure that nourishes the property's imagination. In the Vin de Corse Sartène appellation, the estate has established itself as a reference for characterful wines, both sunny, precise, and deeply rooted. The Hermit of Sant Armettu 2024 embodies this ambition with a parcel selection red that highlights the purity of Sciaccarellu and the strength of the Tizzano hillsides.
This cuvée comes from a parcel selection located on the granite arenas of the Tizzano hillsides, a terroir that favors both aromatic depth and texture finesse. Domaine Sant Armettu The Hermit of Sant Armettu 2024 is made exclusively from Sciaccarellu, a Corsican grape variety planted here in 1973. The harvest is destemmed then carefully sorted in the vineyard and cellar to preserve healthy, precise, and expressive material. Fermentation takes place in large oak vats with indigenous yeasts, without additives, following a low-intervention winemaking approach. Aging continues for 9 months in large oak vats, then 9 months in tanks, allowing a combination of depth, polish, and respect for the fruit. Bottling unfiltered preserves the wine's natural density and its most direct expression. In the 2024 vintage, The Hermit presents itself as a great structured Corsican red, silky and complex, faithful to the high-end dimension of this cuvée.
On tasting, The Hermit of Sant Armettu 2024 reveals an intense red robe, announcing a wine of character and concentration. The nose opens with deep notes of red fruits, spices, and wilder nuances that recall the world of the Corsican maquis. On the palate, Sciaccarellu expresses a texture both ample, silky, and elegant, without excessive heaviness. The structure is present but supported by a fine framework that gives the wine a sensation of controlled depth. The fruity aromas lengthen with beautiful complexity, supported by a spicy and persistent finish. This red from Corse Sartène will perfectly accompany a roasted veal chop, herb lamb, wild boar stew, grilled beef cut, or a confit vegetable tian. Its aging potential is serious, and a few years in the cellar will allow its material, spices, and aromatic complexity to gain even more harmony.
