Maison Camille Thiriet - Bourgogne Aligoté - Aligoté du Jardin 2024
Domaine Camille Thiriet Bourgogne Aligoté Aligoté du Jardin 2024 perfectly illustrates the current revival of Aligoté in Burgundy. Located in Corgoloin, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Camille Thiriet and Matt Chittick have built in just a few years a highly regarded address among lovers of precise, artisanal wines deeply rooted in their terroir. After starting as a micro-negociant in 2016, the estate developed with the acquisition of vines in Côte de Nuits-Villages, then the takeover of Domaine Gilles Jourdan in 2022. Their work highlights sometimes discreet appellations, with particular attention to old vines, just ripeness, and sensitive vinifications. This Aligoté du Jardin fits into this philosophy with a rare, vibrant, and refined white Burgundy. The 2024 vintage emphasizes the natural freshness of the grape variety while maintaining a beautiful depth of matter. It is a confidential cuvée, highly sought after by lovers of characterful Aligotés.
Made from old Aligoté parcels, this white reveals an ambitious interpretation of a grape variety long underestimated. The old vines bring more concentration, relief, and complexity than a simpler or more direct Aligoté. The Burgundian terroir, marked by limestone and clay soils depending on the area, gives the wine a mineral tension and a beautiful length. Barrel aging rounds out the natural liveliness of the grape without masking its brightness or precision. A short skin maceration is mentioned on part of the grapes, which can enhance texture, fine bitterness, and aromatic depth. The whole retains a pure, straight, and salivating style, faithful to the spirit of the estate. The result is a high-quality Bourgogne Aligoté, both energetic, textured, and very gastronomic.
On tasting, the robe shows a bright light yellow with slight golden reflections. The nose evokes ripe lemon, green apple, fresh pear, white flowers, and a touch of delicate almond. The palate is lively, tense, and precise, driven by a natural acidity that gives a lot of momentum. The body gains roundness thanks to aging, but the balance remains fresh, mineral, and perfectly digestible. The finish extends the citrus, wet stone, white flowers, and fine bitterness that add relief. This white can be served around 10 to 12°C, in a white wine glass, to reveal both its tension and texture. It will ideally accompany oysters, gougères, parsley ham, creamy poultry, grilled fish, aged goat cheese, or citrus vegetable dishes.
