Domaine Thibault Liger Belair - Burgundy - Les Deux Terres 2022
Thibault Liger-Belair is one of the most closely followed winemakers of the Côte de Nuits, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges within a family history deeply linked to Burgundy. Since taking over the estate in 2001, he has imposed a precise, elegant, and demanding style, based on just the right maturity, careful aging, and a true sensitivity to terroir. With Les Deux Terres, he signs a unique cuvée, from his activity Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs, conceived as a bridge between two great red wine worlds. The name perfectly sums up the spirit of the wine, born from the meeting between Beaujolais and Burgundy. Gamay brings its fruity brightness, indulgence, and energy, while Pinot Noir provides finesse, distinction, and a more Burgundian touch. This 2022 cuvée thus offers an original, very accessible yet serious interpretation of the Thibault Liger-Belair style. It is a superb entry point into his universe, with an immediately pleasurable wine, precise and very well constructed.
The Bourgogne Gamay Les Deux Terres 2022 cuvée is based on a blend of 85% Gamay and 15% Pinot Noir. The grapes come from a selection of terroirs linked to the crus of Beaujolais, Burgundy Pinot Noir, and the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. Each vintage results in an adjustment of the blend, aiming to find the best balance between the structure of Gamay and the finesse of Pinot Noir. The harvest is done manually, with 30% whole clusters that bring relief, freshness, and a slightly spicy dimension. Fermentation lasts about three weeks, with very gentle extraction to preserve the fruit and avoid any tannic harshness. Aging continues for 12 months in oak barrels, without new wood, to support the texture without masking the expression of the grape varieties. The result is a supple, indulgent, and precise red that plays more on the purity of the fruit than on power.
In the glass, Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair Les Deux Terres 2022 reveals a bright ruby robe, young and full of brilliance. The nose opens on blackcurrant, blueberry, raspberry, and crushed strawberry, with a touch of pepper and some floral nuances. The palate is supple, juicy, and immediately pleasant, carried by fine tannins and very digestible matter. Gamay gives energy, indulgence, and crunchy black fruit, while Pinot Noir brings a silkier texture and discreet elegance. The whole remains fresh, precise, and very enjoyable to drink, with a spicy finish that prolongs the pleasure. This red can be served slightly chilled, around 14 to 15°C, to enhance its fruity brightness and drinkability. It will perfectly accompany roasted poultry, a fine charcuterie board, pâté en croûte, pork tenderloin, grilled vegetables, or a soft cheese.
